No the back isnt flat ! .. and neither is the front .. usually !

Both the back and front are constructed from solid flat boards bent over curved braces.

Both back and front are ladder braced as on our “Oddy Mandocello” but can also be built with a true flat front using a guitar style “X” brace and fixed pin bridge which gives a different tone … more guitar like of course !

“A” grade Rosewood back and sides.
Sitka Spruce front with round soundhole and line of Abalone with contrasting black and white veneers.
Two part laminated Black Walnut neck with Rosewood veneered peghead fitted with Gotoh mini tuners. Decorated with “David Oddy” brand and “Vine” inlay all in Mother-of-Pearl
Rosewood fingerboard inlayed with snowflake fret markers and white side dots.
Maple bindings with contrasting veneers between all boards and binding
Setup with Elixir strings and tuned GDAE. Scale length of 23” / 584mm
supplied with soft case.

This instrument is usually built with a bouzouki /teardrop shaped body.

We have also built them as an 8 string guitar using an 'O' sized martin style body.
